Marrakech weather in July
Marrakech weather in July: highs of 37.7 °C, lows of 20.6 °C and about 2 mm of rain. Be outdoors early in the morning or after 6 pm, not at midday.

In July, Marrakech is at its hottest: the average high is 37.7 °C, the average low 20.6 °C, and there is almost no rain — about 2 mm in the whole month. The middle of the day is very hot, so time outdoors belongs to the early morning and to the hours after about 6 pm.
What is the weather like in Marrakech in July?
July is the hottest month of the year in Marrakech, measured at the Menara weather station over 1991–2020. The average afternoon high is 37.7 °C, and heatwaves go well beyond it: the station record, 49.6 °C, was set in July. The nights bring less relief than you might hope. The average low is 20.6 °C, so the evening stays warm long after the sun has gone.
The air is dry. Average humidity is 47 %, the lowest of the year together with August, which makes the heat drier but no less intense. Rain is almost absent: 2.2 mm on average and 0.3 days with at least 1 mm, which makes July the driest month of the year. It often passes without a single wet day.
The sun shines about 330 hours in the month, more than ten hours a day, from a clear, high sky. In practice, the day has three parts: a pleasant early morning around sunrise, a long stretch from late morning to late afternoon when the heat is hard in the open, and a warm evening, the easiest time to be outside.
July compared with June and August
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rain | Rainy days | Sunshine | Sunset (15th) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| June | 33.6 °C | 17.9 °C | 3.1 mm | 0.6 | 360 h | 19:38 |
| July | 37.7 °C | 20.6 °C | 2.2 mm | 0.3 | 330 h | 19:38 |
| August | 37.4 °C | 21.1 °C | 4.7 mm | 0.8 | 315 h | 19:15 |
July is about 4 °C hotter than June by day and nearly 3 °C warmer at night, with even less rain. August is almost as hot, with slightly warmer nights and a little more rain. June has more sunshine hours: July is the peak of the heat, not of the sun.

Sunrise and sunset in July
On 15 July the sun rises at about 5:37 am and sets at about 7:38 pm, at GMT (UTC+0), the time in Morocco since 20 September 2026: some 14 hours of daylight. Sunset is as late as in June, then starts to move earlier towards the end of the month; by mid-August it comes at about 7:15 pm.
Morocco’s time changes neither in summer nor during Ramadan.
In July, the afternoon departure in Agafay is at 5:00 pm, and the meeting point at the base is at the start time. Sunset in mid-July is at about 7:38 pm. Agafay at sunset goes through the sunset time month by month and the fixed afternoon departures.
The Agafay desert in July
The Agafay desert, 45 minutes by road south-west of the city, has the same climate as Marrakech: the same 37 to 38 °C afternoons, the same dry air. What changes is the exposure. The plateau is open, with very little shade, so the midday sun is harder there than in the city streets. Once the sun is down, it loses its heat quickly, even in July, although the average low stays around 21 °C.
In July, the time of day matters more than anything else. Two moments work:
- Sunrise. The hot air balloon flight takes off at sunrise over the plain near Marrakech, after a hotel pickup before dawn: about 40 minutes in the air during the coolest hour of the day.
- The afternoon departure. The quad, camel and sunset dinner leaves at 5:00 pm in July: the quad, the camels, and dinner under the tents.
Avoid the hours around midday out on the plateau.
What to wear in Marrakech in July
With highs of 37.7 °C, dress for the sun rather than against it:
- light, loose clothes that cover your arms and legs, in a breathable fabric;
- a hat, sunglasses and sun cream;
- water at all times, in the city as in the desert.
For a quad ride, add closed shoes, long trousers you do not mind getting dusty, and a scarf or buff to pull over your face. Evenings are warm, but a light layer is welcome once you sit still in the desert after dark. What to wear quad biking in Agafay goes through the kit piece by piece.
Is July a good time to visit Marrakech?
July is the hardest month of the year for heat, and there is no point pretending otherwise: average highs near 38 °C, heatwaves that go far higher, and warm nights. In exchange, it is almost certain to be dry and sunny.
It suits travellers who like the heat and plan their days around it: an early start, a long break in the shade at midday, and evenings outdoors. If you want comfortable weather for whole days outside, spring and autumn are easier; Marrakech weather month by month compares all twelve months.
