What is the weather like in Marrakech in February?
February is the month when Marrakech starts to leave winter behind. At the Menara station, the average high is 20.7 °C and the average low 7.6 °C, over 1991–2020. Both are about one and a half degrees above January, but the gap between afternoon and dawn is still around 13 degrees: warm in the sun at 3 pm, cold again after dark.
The month brings about 26 mm of rain, spread over three to four days with at least 1 mm. That is almost the same amount as January, on slightly more days, and it usually comes as a short shower rather than a wet week.
February records around 217 hours of sunshine, the lowest monthly total of the year. The number is misleading: February is the shortest month. Per day, it works out at about seven and three-quarter hours of sun, a little more than January.
Humidity averages 66%, the highest monthly figure of the year in Marrakech, if only just. In practice, it is the contrast between sun and shade that you feel: a sunny afternoon feels like spring, a shaded courtyard at dusk does not.
February compared with January and March
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rain | Rainy days | Sunshine | Sunset (15th) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 19.1 °C | 5.9 °C | 25 mm | 3.0 | 230 h | 17:50 |
| February | 20.7 °C | 7.6 °C | 26 mm | 3.7 | 217 h | 18:18 |
| March | 23.6 °C | 10.3 °C | 35 mm | 4.7 | 253 h | 18:39 |
February sits at the start of the warm-up. It gains about 1.6 degrees on January by day and 1.7 by night, and March adds almost three more degrees on both. Rain stays steady from January to February, then rises in March, the wettest month of the year. The light changes fastest now: sunset is almost half an hour later in mid-February than in mid-January. Sunrise and sunset in February
On 15 February, the sun rises at about 7:14 am and sets at about 6:18 pm in Marrakech, at GMT (UTC+0), the time in Morocco since 20 September 2026. That is just over eleven hours of daylight, against a little over ten in mid-January.
Morocco’s time changes neither in summer nor during Ramadan.
In winter, the afternoon departure in Agafay is at 4:00 pm, and the meeting point at the base is at the start time. Sunset in mid-February is at about 6:18 pm. Agafay at sunset gives the sunset time for every month and the fixed afternoon departures.
The Agafay desert in February
The Agafay desert, 45 minutes south-west of Marrakech, has the same climate as the city: the same mild afternoons and cold nights, the same short spells of rain. What changes is the exposure. The plateau is open, with very little shade, and once the sun goes down it gets cold quickly.
In February, the afternoon is the most comfortable part of the day on the plateau: the air has warmed up, and there is no heat to avoid. The 1-hour camel ride in Agafay is easy to fit into a February afternoon. The quad, camel and Moroccan meal runs for five hours from the 4:00 pm departure and ends after dark, when a warm layer becomes essential.
What to wear in Marrakech in February
February is a month for layers:
- By day: a T-shirt or shirt with a light jumper, enough in the afternoon sun at around 21 °C. Sunglasses help all year.
- Morning and evening: a warm jacket or fleece. With nights around 8 °C, early starts and dinners outdoors feel cold.
- In the desert: closed shoes, long trousers and a fleece for the ride, and a proper coat for any outing that ends after sunset.
- For the rain: three or four short rainy days on average; a light waterproof layer covers it.
What to wear and bring for quad biking goes through the kit for an outing on the plateau, season by season.
Is February a good time to visit Marrakech?
February is a good time to visit Marrakech if you want mild, mostly dry days and can live with cold evenings. Afternoons around 21 °C are comfortable for the city and for the desert, rain is limited to a few short spells, and each week adds daylight.
The limit is the night. With lows near 8 °C, anything that runs after sunset needs warm clothes, and dawn is cold. If you prefer warmer evenings, March and April are a few degrees milder, at the cost of a little more rain in March.
